Monrovia, August 23, 2019 –The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will conduct a three-day public awareness program on Public Land.

The public awareness program, which begins on Monday August 26 thru the 28th at the Administrative Building in Gbarnga, Bong County, is an expression of the ongoing collaboration with major donor partners, such as the UNDP and the LLA, and serve as a platform to inform local authorities on the various categories of land as enshrined in the Land Rights Act with specific focus on Public Land.

Public Land is defined in the Land Rights Act as land which is not Government Land, nor Private Land or Customary Land.

The LLAP is supporting the LLA develop regulations including the confirmatory survey of all Customary Land and the inventory of Public Land.

The Land Rights Act provides that “depending on the amount of available customary land during the confirmatory survey, a maximum of ten percent (10%) of Customary Land in each community, or an amount of Customary Land at the discretion of the community, shall be set aside and allocated as Public Land.

The Chairman designate of the LLA, Atty. J. Adams Manobah, LLA Commissioners, the UNDP Resident Representative, Dr. Pa Lamin Beyai, LLA Executive Director, Stanley Toe and some staff of the various departments of the LLA are expected to attend the consultations.
